What is Artificial intelligence? Applications, History and Facts

What is Artificial intelligence
What is Artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence is a very broad concept that can refer to anything from the technology used from automated systems or chatbots, to the ability of advanced software to think or learn like humans. AI algorithms are used to perform tasks such as image recognition, speech recognition, and translation between languages.

The History of Artificial Intelligence (from the very beginning to today)

Early work in AI had been done by Alan Turing (1948), John von Neumann (1956), Claude Shannon (1950), Oliver Selfridge (1959), Allen Newell and Herb Simon (1958), Arthur Samuel (1959), Marvin Minsky (1957), John McCarthy (1959) and Donald Michie (1961).

In the 19th century, Charles Babbage and Ada Lovelace wrote about a machine that could calculate numbers automatically. Their ideas inspired Alan Turing’s work on artificial intelligence (AI) in the 1930s and 1940s, but he did not have access to computers powerful enough for his theoretical plans.

It was not until the 1950s that AI research resumed with an emphasis on using computers to solve problems previously thought impossible for machines to handle.

In 1956 by a researcher named John McCarthy. He defined it as “the science and engineering of making intelligent machines.”

The first computer program that could be considered AI was written in 1951 by Arthur Samuel, who was inspired by a checkers-playing program he saw at Bell Labs.

The field of artificial intelligence has grown dramatically since then, with many breakthroughs happening in the last few years.

In 2011, IBM’s Watson competed on Jeopardy! against two human champions and won.

In 2013, Google made headlines when its self-driving cars successfully drove themselves across California.

In 2017,  AlphaGo beat Lee Sedol at Go—an ancient Chinese game that had long been considered too difficult for computers to master.

Which was the first A.I language ?

The first A.I language was Lisp. It was developed by John McCarthy in 1958, and has been used to develop numerous A.I programs.

Lisp is a functional programming language, which means it is designed to be used for computer programs that solve problems through logic. It is also an object-oriented programming language, which means it deals with data in terms of objects rather than just numbers or text.

Applications of Artificial Intelligence In Life

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. It is also the name of the academic field of study which studies how to create computers and computer software that are capable of intelligent behavior: a branch of computer science, cognitive science, and engineering.

The use of AI has been increasing in several aspects in our daily lives including:

Artificial intelligence is being used for healthcare, education, business and marketing. AI can be used in both social and business contexts, like personal assistants on mobile phones or intelligent agents that filter spam from an email inbox. As technology advances with each new generation, so does Artificial Intelligence. With more advanced programming and algorithms, AI can now do more than ever before!

Machine Learning Vs Artificial Intelligence: What’s The Difference?

Artificial IntelligenceMachine Learning
AI aims to make a smart
computer system like humans.
to solve complex problems.
 ML allows machines to learn
from data so that they can
give accurate output.

Based on capability, AI can be
divided into three types. Weak
AI, General AI. and Strong AI,
ML is also divided into 3 types-
 Supervised learning. Unsupervised
 learning, and Reinforcement
 learning.
AI systems are concerned with
maximizing the chances of success
 Machine learning is mainly
concerned with accuracy and
patterns.
AI enables a machine. to
Simulate human behavior.

 Machine. learning is a
 subset of AI.
Mainly deals with structured,
semi-structured. and
unstructured data.

ML deals with structured and
semi-structured data.
Applications of AI are Siri,
customer support using chatbots,
intelligent humanoid robots, etc.
Applications of ML are
recommendation systems, search
algorithms, Facebook auto friend
tagging suggestions, etc.

Facts About Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the most exciting and promising technologies of our time. It’s also one of the most misunderstood.

Here are facts about AI to help you separate fact from fiction when it comes to this emerging field:

  • Fast forward to 1898 that’s made fast falling Nikola Tesla held a demonstration of the world’s very first radio-controlled vessel at an electrical exhibition in the recently completed Madison Square Gardens Tesla described the small-boat is having a borrowed mind but in actuality he was controlling it with a small remote control though not strictly automatic Tesla described it as a teller or Tommy table.
  • In 1927 the new legendary science fiction film metropolis was released which famously featured a creepy-looking art deco robot it’s stark aesthetic provided inspiration for years to come and was mirrored in the form of more well known automatons like c-3po from Star Wars.
  • A computer version of the board game Monopoly was released in 1983 called auto monopoly and was marketed as the first computer monopoly player strong enough to compete with humans.
  • the very first annual Robocop football tournament was held which media’s football matches played by teams of robots and so while promoting artificial intelligence and robotics with an event that has intellectually challenging as well as publicly appealing there are 3,500 individual participants in 2016 tournament from over 45 different countries.
  • Blue brain a project started in an attempt to stimulate the brain of some molecular level was started in 2005 the project hope to create a brain comparable to that of a human by 2023 which will be made up of around 100 billion artificial cells.
