Review: This first installment of the Harry Potter series is lined with fantastical imagery, brave heroes, stunning special effects, and loving characters. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is, without a doubt, magical. The settings are sensationally imaginative while also being so believable and lived-in that you’ll believe you could find them yourself if you could just get to Platform 9 3/4.

The adult actors are simply and entirely amazing. As headmaster Albus Dumbledore, Richard Harris gives an excellent performance, Maggie Smith (who’s on-screen teaching roles range from The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie to Sister Act) brings just the right dry asperity to Professor McGonagall, and Coltrane is a half-giant with a heart to match as Hagrid.

Review: It’s entertaining to highlight Ford and Connery’s chemistry. The actors are clearly having fun and have perfect timing. Connery’s personality is a worthy friend and villain, in contrast to several of Indy’s prior sidekicks who were annoying. You worry about the bond between the father and son because of their past.

In addition, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade features the return of Indy’s more reserved personality, a hero who can be extremely awkward when not fighting villains or solving ancient secrets.
