Origins of the Oscars

In the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, on May 16, 1929, the first Academy Awards event took place. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), an association for professionals in the film industry, was in charge of planning the event.

Despite being a private event, there were only about 270 attendees, and each ticket cost $5. The ceremony’s goal was to recognize and commemorate the outstanding filmmaking performances from the previous year.

The First Oscars

The first Oscars ceremony was organized just for 15 minutes, and the winners were announced in advance. There were only 12 categories, compared to the 24 categories we have today.

Best Picture award was known as the “Outstanding Picture” award, and it was given to  “Wings,” which was a silent film about World War I.

The first Best Actor award went to Emil Jannings for his roles in two films, “The Last Command” and “The Way of All Flesh,” and the first Best Actress award went to Janet Gaynor for her performances in three films, “Seventh Heaven,” “Street Angel,” and “Sunrise.”

Throughout time, the Oscars have gotten bigger to become one of the most prestigious and highly-anticipated awards ceremonies in the world.

Today, the ceremony is broadcast live to millions of viewers around the globe, and it is known for its glitz, glamor, and red carpet fashion.

The Oscars now have 24 categories, from Best Picture to Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and more.

The Rise of South Indian Movies

India won two Oscars for Naatu Naatu song and short documentary film, The Elephant Whisperers. India was nominated for three works: Naatu Naatu song, Elephant Whisperers and All the breathes.

The Elephant Whisperers

The documentary is about Bomman and Bellie, a couple in South India who adopted an Elephant and how they raised him. This documentary won an Academy award for best documentary short film. This is a Tamil language movie, directed by Kartiki Gonsalves.

RRR’s Naatu Naatu Song

Yes, we did it! Rajamouli’s RRR song Naatu Naatu captured everyone’s heart and won the biggest award “Oscar ” for the Best Original song award. This song entertained and impressed everyone by its dance moves along with the concept of Brotherhood.

Many big personalities were seen moving on this song’s beats including BTS Jungkook. So, there was no chance of losing that lady. Ram Charan mentioned it in one of the American TV shows. He said, “want to take leady home”

Naatu Naatu composed by M. M. Keeravani with lyrics by Chandrabose and recorded by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava. Naatu Naatu became the first song to win an Oscar of this category in the whole of South Asia.

M. M. Keeravani is  Film score composer; Music director; Singer; Lyricist.

He has worked for big pictures like Magadheera, Bahubali, RRR and many more. He is the cousin brother of Rajamouli. M. M. Keeravani also sang a song after receiving an Oscar in his speech ” RRR must win the pride of every indian.” Furthermore, he gave tribute to the Carpenters in his speech.

Bollywood and Indian reaction

India is celebrating its first two Oscars thoroughly! Celebration even reached the Rajya Sabha. The Speaker of Rajya Sabha, Jagdeep Dhankhar said, “If I was not a lawyer, I would have been acting today!

On the other hand, Mallikarjun Kharge targeted BJP by saying ” Now Modi should not get the credit for winning Oscars that India won Oscars today because of Modi. Jaya Bachchan said, ” Both the works aren’t Telugu or Tamil but Indian Movies and we are proud of them!

Alia and Kangana praised Deepika Padukone as she was looking absolutely Stunning in her gorgeous Black attire.

Although, Bollywood is looking so indulged in praising south Indian movies, they should understand that South Indian cinema is now not only taking over Bollywood but the world as well. If Bollywood wants to compete with them, they have to stop making remixes and copying foreign works.

Bollywood can make money by continuing doing this but can’t win any big award and should praise the real talent, unlike giving awards to the weak talents like Ananya Pandey for the Best Actress in home awards. Like IIFA aren’t given on the basis of talent but who perform on these types of award shows. Bollywood awards are total disasters and that’s why we are lacking in everything now.

Bollywood isn’t only disrespecting all the real talents but also blocking the opportunities of becoming a soft power in front of the world. Why I’m saying this is because a powerful country shouldn’t only have Arms to fight but the soft power as well, like South Korea building this power very beautifully by BTS and KPOP.

BTS helped to increase the South Korean economy by showing their culture. But in the case of Bollywood we don’t see our culture presentation anywhere but only cursing words, Remix songs, repeated storylines.

Why RRR is liked by the whole world is because they got successful in showing our Culture, Brotherhood and nation love.
