One certificate cannot cover all the aspects of the movie. That’s why there are a total of four film certificates, known as U, U/A, A, and S.

  1. ‘U’ certificate: Anyone can watch it without any restriction of age. Films rated under this category have no vi*lence, n*dity, or intimidating scenes, which means zero harm to society.
  2. ‘U/A’ certificate: Kids under 12 years of age are advised to watch movies with their parents because there might be scenes that can be disturbing and need to be addressed.
  3. ‘A’ certificate: audience of 18 or older are allowed to watch. Contains abusive language, n*dity, and strong vi*lence. Movies fall under this category, either based on society or crime.
  4. ‘S’ certificate: movies are made for special classes. Engineers, doctors, and scientists for deep understanding.

How Films are Certified by Indian Movies Censor Rating Team?

Each and every movie must be certified by the CBFC before it is released in theaters or on any platform. There is a procedure:

  1. Firstly, movies are sent to the CBFC after submitting the application form at regional centers.
  2. The CBFC team watched the movies and took out all the points that would determine what kind of certificate should be given.
  3. If the movie contains excessive violence and se*ual scenes, then the CBFC tells the movie-making team whether to change or delete the scenes.
  4. Lastly, after gaining confirmation from CBFC that all the necessary points are fulfilled, the movies are allowed to be released.
